Former American Idol star Taylor Hicks along with four other bands will highlight the Rajun Cajun Festival, May 17 in Heflin, Alabama at Ross Mountain Adventures.
The event, to begin at noon, is a fundraiser for the nearby Hollis Fire and Rescue and proceeds will go toward building a new facility for the department which will be located on 5.5 acres on Highway 431 and County Road 11 in Cleburne County.
In addition to Hicks, the event will feature other talent including the Ryan Robertson Band, Joshua Travis Band, Young Sullivan and The Buck Wild Band.
Ross Mountain Adventures, south of Heflin at 3825 Hwy 9 will host the event that runs from noon until midnight of the 17th.
Organizers urge festival goers to bring their own lawn chairs as seating is not provided. Alcohol will be sold on-site and coolers are not allowed.
The local Ryan Robertson Band will open the show at 12:30 p.m. and play until 2 p.m. when the Joshua Travis Band will take the stage until 4 p.m. followed by Young Sullivan who will perform until 6 p.m. The Buck Wild Band will start the music at 6:30 p.m. and play until 8 p.m.
Hicks will perform from 8:30 pm. - 10:30 p.m. and Young Sullivan will come back on the stage to close out the show while Hicks signs autographs for fans.
Serving up some good eats during the day will be the Red Mountain Crawfish Company of Birmingham, Papa's and Grammie's Peanuts - hot boiled and Cajun, Cajun Gator on a Stick, Q & A Concessions will have Polish sausage, Philly cheesesteaks, hamburgers, hotdogs, tea and lemonade, chips and non-alcoholic Hurricane Daiquiris.
Turkey Heaven VFD are the Smokin' Masters of the day cooking up BBQ lunches and Moon Life Products will be sold under the 'Gator tent.
For more fun Lee & Taunnya Goosby will be on hand with their mechanical bull and Southern Canoe Outfitters will be providing two, four, eight-hour and overnight canoe and kayak rentals on the adjoining Tallapoosa River.
Advance tickets are $20 (children $15 age10 and under), gate admission is $25, VIP packages are $99 per person and include admittance to the festival, pass to the VIP seating area in front of the main stage, VIP parking, event t-shirt and an invitation to meet and greet with Taylor Hicks.
As Ross Mountain Adventures is the host site, they also welcome campers as camp sites are available. Horse lovers may also bring their horses. Free parking is available but sites closer to the venue are $5. In the event you need more money to enjoy your visit, an ATM is available on site.
