Taylor Armstrong is speaking out about her late husband nearly three years after his tragic suicide.

In a new interview, the former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star opened up about her marriage to Russell, and compared it to her relationship with her now-husband, John Bluher.

“I think what happens when you’re with someone who is very controlling or maybe I shouldn’t say for everyone, but for me, I started eliminating pieces of my personality in order to conform to the person that I was with and what they wanted,” Armstrong told Radar Online, acceding to an Aug. 11 report by Wetpaint Entertainment. “I became just like this ghost and this shell of myself.”

Following Russell's suicide, Armstrong continued to film "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," and eventually introduced her attorney boyfriend to fans. At the time, things weren't too serious between the pair, as he was dealing with the end of his marriage in Colorado, but once Bluher got divorced, he and Armstrong upped the ante and got engaged. Then, in April 2014, they tied the knot with Armstrong's daughter, Kennedy, at their sides.

Looking back, Armstrong can clearly see how unhealthy her relationship with Russell was, and in doing so, she's able to truly appreciate what she and Bluher have with one another.

“Whenever John and I first started dating, I was like, ‘You’re going to have to let me be exactly who I am because I can’t change anymore. I don’t have anymore changing left in me, so you’re just going to have to go with the good and bad and every other part of me because I want to go back to the person I used to be,’” Armstrong continued. “He said, ‘OK,” and that’s what he does. All of the different sides, he just goes with it.”
