Investigators with the Delaware State Police say that taxi cab driver Khalid Chablaoui, 30, from New Castle, Delaware, has been accused of raping a 22-year-old woman that fell asleep in his cab. The woman told police she flagged down the cab in Dewey Beach outside the Lighthouse Bar at approximately, 9 p.m. last Friday, according to an Aug. 22 report from NBC News in Philadelphia.

The woman said that when Chablaoui stopped to pick her up, she jumped into the front passenger seat and then fell asleep during the taxi cab ride back to her home. She told police she awoke while she was being raped by the cab driver. The woman told investigators “that she pushed Chablaoui away and demanded that he take her home.”

The taxi driver drove the woman to her home and dropped her off at approximately 10:15 p.m., according to CBS News in Philly. After arriving home, the woman contacted police to report that she had been sexually assaulted by Chablaoui.

By the following Sunday, local police and troopers with the Delaware State Police began their investigation into the alleged rape. Online records with the DMVE show that Chablaoui, who owns and operates his own I-Taxi, drives a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt and that his Delaware tags will be expiring on Aug. 31.

By Thursday, Chablaoui had turned himself in and voluntarily surrendered to authorities. The New Castle resident was arrested and charged with fourth-degree rape. Chablaoui was remanded to Sussex County Jail where he was being held on a $20,000 secured bond.
