With winter nearing a close, that time of the year has arrived again: filing taxes. This year, taxes must be filed by Monday, April 15 2013.
Every year the Oakland Public Library lends a helping hand to people enduring this frustrating process by offering tax assistance sessions through the AARP Tax-Aid program.
Starting tomorrow, a team of tax savvy volunteers will be at five different Oakland Public Library locations to help residents complete their tax forms.
Those in need of the extra guidance in filling out their tax forms will need to bring copies of 2012’s federal and state tax returns and all paperwork that relates to their 2012 tax forms. If filing jointly, tax paperwork for spouses will be needed as well.
Citizens who wish to walk in for help with their taxes can visit the Main Library, Golden Gate, Cesar Chavez or Eastmont branches.
Due to the popularity of this free tax assistance service at the Diamond Branch, it is advised to call in advance to make an appointment in order to be placed into a time slot. To make an appointment or for more information, call (510) 482-7844.
