Tattooed Professor is presidential contender in Czech Republic

This weekend the Czech Republic will hold their presidential elections. Tonight the nine candidates will meet in a debate. One of the forerunners, with 11 percent of the popular vote is a very unlikely politician. Vladimir Franz is a college professor, musician artist, holds a law degree, and did not think about entering politics until friends, family, and fans urged him to run. The first thing people notice about Franz before he even speaks is his appearance; he is covered in tattoos, has several piercings, and has blue-dyed hair.

Given his bizarre appearance, it is shocking to see that Franz is a fairly conservative politician. He is looking to reform the government and has four platforms: education, culture, morality, and tolerance. Running as an independent, he has a huge appeal to the youth vote and is currently third in the running. He has appealed to voters as he is not "hungry for power" but is motivated to reform the government and give power back to the people.

It will remain to be seen after tonight if Franz can gain enough votes to win the election, but the artist is maintaining a positive attitude regardless of the outcome. Should he win, it could be a fine example of not judging one by their outer appearance, and by their deeds and values.
