There was lots of controversy surrounding her lack of nomination at the Golden Globes this year. A critic and fan favorite, many are banking on her receiving an Emmy nomination when they are announced on July 10th. Although she had several roles on the big and small screen over the years, it is her role on "Orphan Black" that has catapulted her to a household name.

She did dance and theater at a young age and participated in school productions and improv before she graduated high school in 2003. After high school, she settled in Toronto. Her first major role came in a short film called "The Recital" where she played Diana Mills. Maslany also appeared in a number of made for television movies between 2005-2007 including "Dawn Anna" where she played a young Lauren Townsend who was killed during the Columbine massacre.

On the small screen Maslany scored roles in a few Canadian series including "Being Erica" and "Heartland". Before landing the role in "Orphan Black" she appeared in "The Vow" and the ratings success "The Nativity" as the Virgin Mary. She won a Sundance Film Festival Award in 2010 for her role in "Grown Up Movie Star".

In 2013, Maslany landed the role on "Orphan Black" and the sci-fi show became an immediate critical success. Maslany's distinct portrayal of all of the clones on the BBC America series has made her an awards show and fan favorite and earned her the respect of the acting industry. In order to portray each clone, Maslany mastered several accents and goes through physical transformations to give each their own distinct identity.

She was nominated for a Critics Choice Award and Golden Globe during the show's first season winning the Critics Choice Award. In addition she won the Young Hollywood and TCA Award the same year.

Going into the second season of "Orphan Black", Maslany admitted during a press event that playing so many characters can be exhausting but it never feels like work. Her hard work has paid off as the ratings for the show have climbed during the season and although it has yet to be announced, a third season is all but a foregone conclusion.

Maslany is currently filming "The Woman in Gold" with Helen Mirren and Katie Holmes in London which is set for a 2015 release.
