Country singer Tate Stevens will headline his first concert since he was named the winner of "The X Factor" U.S. in December 2012. The concert will take place on April 21, 2013, at the Midland by AMC in Kansas City, Mo. (Click here for tickets and more information.) It has not yet been announced if or when Stevens will tour in the United States.
Meanwhile, "Extra" is hosting a live Internet video chat with Stevens on March 18, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. EDT/11:30 a.m. PDT. The chat will take place on Spreecast.com.
As previously reported, Stevens flopped with "Holler If You're With Me," his first song to be released for sale since he signed with Syco Music/RCA Nashville. "Holler If You're With Me" (released on Feb. 5, 2013) failed to make it on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
A clip from the "Holler If You're With Me" music video (sponsored by Pepsi) was shown during the 55th Annual Grammy Awards telecast on Feb. 10, 2013, but that valuable TV exposure failed to ignite sales for the song. As previously reported, "Holler if You're With Me" also bombed on the iTunes' Top 100 Songs (U.S.) chart and hasn't been getting a lot of airplay at country radio.
Meanwhile, Syco/RCA Nashville released Stevens' ballad "Power of a Love Song" for sale on March 12, 2013. The song so far has bombed on the sales charts. In February 2013, "Power of a Love Song" was released to country radio, where it hasn't made much of an impact either. Based on this flop reaction to "Power of a Love Song," the single will probably not even make it on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Stevens' self-titled first album is scheduled for release on April 23, 2013, but that release date is subject to change. According to an RCA Nashville press release, the album features his collaborations with Joe Diffie, Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip, Shane Minor and David Lee Murphy. Blake Chancey is the album's producer. Stevens co-wrote three of the 11 songs on the album: "I Got This," "Can't Get Nothin' Done" and "Ride It Out."
But based on the dismal sales for "Holler If You're With Me" and "Power of a Love Song," it's very unlikely that the album will be a big hit. Most "X Factor" winners have their biggest sales with their first singles that are released after they won on the show.
In interviews that he did after he won on "The X Factor," Stevens said that he and his family were moving from Missouri to Nashville.
Winners of "The X Factor" are signed to Sony Music, which is the parent company for several record labels, including Syco Music, RCA Records, Epic Records and Columbia Records.
Melanie Amaro, the first winner of "The X Factor" U.S. in 2011, has also been a flop. All four of her songs released for sale since she signed to Syco Music/Epic Records ("Respect," "Don't Fail Me Now," "Love Me Now" and "Long Distance," all released in 2012) have failed to make it on Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her first album, "Truly," was originally scheduled to be released on Dec. 4, 2012, but the album's release has been postponed to a date to be announced.
In most other countries, "X Factor" winners usually debut at No. 1 or the Top 10 in their home countries with their first singles after getting signed to Sony Music. But the winners of "The X Factor" U.S. are embarrassing exceptions.
Stevens performed Craig Morgan's "Bonfire" on Fox's "New Year's Eve Live!" in Las Vegas on Dec. 31, 2012. Stevens was a sudden replacement for "American Idol" 2012 winner Phillip Phillips, who was originally scheduled to perform on "New Year's Eve Live!" but cancelled his appearance because Phillips had undergone kidney surgery that year and reportedly wanted more time to recuperate before performing live again.
March 15, 2013 update: Stevens' Midland by AMC concert on April 21, 2013 has sold out. A second Tate Stevens concert at Midland by AMC has been added for April 22, 2013.
