Imagine a room full of children hanging on every word spoken by a parade of storytellers. Imagine these children are given cookies to enjoy while they are listening intently to the stories. Now take the children out of the room and replace them with grown-ups and leave everything else. That’s what you would experience at a Tasty Words™ event.
The spoken words show often draws standing-room-only crowds. Wendy Hammers, the creator of Tasty Words™, said the reason for the show’s popularity is because the stories presented are real. “They’re vulnerable and they move you in different ways and it is a great thing to laugh, cry, and laugh again,” said Hammers. “That’s really what we do in life. It’s not one thing. It’s more complex than that. This style of work, people respond to that,” she said.
On Saturday night, Tasty Words™ presented Kiss And Tell: An Evening of Stories About Smooching. It was held at the Every Picture Tells a Story art gallery in Santa Monica. There were so many people in attendance, latecomers stood or sat on the floor. The crowd listened as performers told stories that include, the many places that a woman has been kissed, going a year without kissing, and an impermissible kiss that led to an affair.
During the ten years that Tasty Words™ has been running, there have been a variety of theme shows ranging from holidays to relationships.
Tasty Words™ usually runs once a month. The next show will be in March and is entitled Leave the Gun, Take the Cannoli. For more information log on to www.WendyHammers.com.
