Think beyond the usual green beer and mix up something a little less mainstream during this St. Patrick’s Day, the busiest drinking day of the year. May the luck o’ the Irish be with you this holiday with these festive and fun green cocktails.

Crème de menthe derives its taste from Corsican mint and while the liqueur is available in both colorless (white) and green colors and are interchangeable in most cocktail recipes, you’ll want to be sure to choose the green version for the Mint Frappe and Grasshopper because, after all, the main objective is to be in the St. Paddy’s Day frame of mind.

Mint Frappe

Serves 1

2 measures crème de menthe

Crushed ice

Fill a small cocktail glass with crushed ice and pour in the crème de menthe. Drink immediately with straws.


Serves 1

2 measures green crème de menthe

2 measures white crème de cacao

2 measures light cream

Cracked ice

Shake the crème de menthe, crème de cacao and cream over ice until a frost forms. Strain into a chilled goblet.

Green Daze

Serves 1

1 measure chilled Midori

1 measure chilled green Chartreuse

½ measure chilled cream

½ measure lime juice

Cracked ice

Star fruit, for garnish

Stir all the ingredients except the fruit together over ice until well frosted. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a slice of star fruit.
