French Imports from The Wine Trust!
The founding premise of The Wine Trust remains true today: the greatest Bordeaux wines must be aged for many years under ideal cellar conditions before they can be thoroughly enjoyed as their creators intended. And the utmost care, patience and understanding are required to achieve this perfection. These wines require the long passage of time under ideal conditions before they develop the complexity, glorious flavor nuances and grace for which they are famous.

Let me tell you something folks, if you want to be a knowledgeable wine lover you must taste a wide variety of wines and wine types and this is an opportunity that you certainly won’t get every day! Can’t remember the last time your wine group did a flight of the fine wines made from Callet? I don’t doubt it.

“…this must be American Cabernet week, which is quite appropriate locally as I can already smell the fires of a thousand barbecues across Portland this glorious weekend, and nothing goes better with grilled, smoky goodness than our bottles of delight we’ll be showing off tomorrow. It also an opportunity to compare winemaking styles in Washington and California, which is always an interesting and delicious exercise. I don’t think it will take much yo coerce you to come, not just for the wines below but also because it just might time to open up the patio for some outdoor sipping. I wouldn’t say it’s shorts and shirtsleeves weather out there, but definitely pants and light sweater weather. We’ll provide the following soul warming liquids…

-2012 STONECAP “Columbia Valley” Cabernet (Wa.) $8.95
-2012 HEDGES CELLARS “Independent Producers” Cabernet (Wa.)$13.95
-2012 AVALON “Napa Valley” Cabernet (Ca.) $17.95

”Bonus #2- 2009 DOMAINE EDEN “Santa Cruz” Cabernet (Ca.)$33.95…91 pts-Wine Advocate: “Layers of expressive fruit linger on the radiant, juicy finish. This is an especially open and expressive Cabernet Sauvignon. The sweet tannins should allow it to drink beautifully upon release.”
”Bonus #3- 2010 EFESTE “Big Papa Old Block” (Wa.) $53.95…91 pts-Wine Spectator; 93 points-Wine “Advocate: “This estate produces a bevy of brilliant wines that have loads of richness and depth. At the top of heap is the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Big Papa – Old Block. Incredibly rich, layered and pure, it boasts first-rate aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, toasted bread, coffee bean and mint as well as a full-bodied, elegant and thrillingly textured mouthfeel. The quality of tannin here is superb and while already approachable, this beauty will continue to shine for another 10-12 years.”

“I would say that this will show off good old American winemaking know how at its finest. To taste the best of what our great country can do just show up with a curious thirst anytime between 4:30 and 8:00 Friday. Bring some nibbles and friends to share the wealth of flavor. The cost is ten dollars for the first five wines and a bit more for our bonus pleasures. See you here!”
