“Join us at the Scott Paul PDX tasting room for a one-time only special tasting event featuring top 1er Cru Burgundies, led by winemaker-importer Scott Paul Wright.
“Sites that have proven over the centuries to be capable of producing some of the very best Burgundy has to offer, the Premier Crus make up less than 10% of the vineyard land in Burgundy. Only the legendary Grand Crus surpass the 1er Crus in prestige, but they also cost hundreds to thousands of dollars per bottle today. While not inexpensive, the Premier Crus can deliver much better bang-for-the-buck, and it is not rare for a great 1er Cru to outperform a Grand Cru in head-to-head tastings.
“For this one night only, we’ll be pouring exclusive 1er Crus from star producers Frédéric Mugnier, Comte Armand, Buisson-Charles and Violot-Guillemard.Tasting fee is $25 for this special event, refunded with any purchase of the featured wines.”

“Bordeaux, Burgundy, or Provence? Fish in a barrel stuff. You can get to those places with hardly a thought. Not that they’re bad places to be, but every now and then you have to break away from the easy. Get to places where you have to use google maps to find. Like Gaillac. Not on everybody’s itinerary, but as you’ll see tomorrow it probably should be. Same goes for drinking gamay from the Cotes Roannaise. Where is it? South out of Paris toward Lyon, then pivot due west about 50km to the village of Renaison and you’ll find the Serol family estate. Been there since the 18th century, so even of you don’t drive by the place someone is bound to know them. There’s stories like that all over France, and that’s what we’ll set about to explore tomorrow evening. This is going to be a quite fascinating tasting. If you think of yourself as a more adventurous indulger, then definitely make a point to swing by. With this many flavors coming at you I can promise there is absolutely something for everyone here…”
