Taste the book: Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at SouthBites

For over a decade, Jeni Britton Bauer has been churning inventive flavors using high quality ingredients. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has earned nationwide acclaim, but the availability of their ice cream is still relatively limited. Even after expanding to nine scoop shops in that state, the company still has locations in just three other states. None of which are Texas.

Kitchen savvy fans can use "Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home" to try 100 of the recipes that have made Ohio a dessert destination, including the signature Queen City Cayenne, a rich milk chocolate with a kick of cinnamon and cayenne. Pints of the ice cream are also available from a growing number of grocery stores, including Austin-native Whole Foods, while desperate cravings can be satisfied by ordering online for home delivery.

But for a few more days at South by Southwest, Austinites can enjoy Jeni's outside of their kitchen or freezer aisle. SouthBites has gathered a selection of food truck vendors at the southeast corner of Cesar Chavez and Red River to feed attendees of the annual music, film, and interactive conference. Some vendors are local, such as Paul Qui's East Side King, but Jeni's took a road trip from Ohio to take part. Hungry Austinites don't need a wristband to get access to the food truck court, though they will have to navigate the traffic to get there.

There's a full schedule online of scooping times, including setting up in other locations such as Rachel Ray's Feedback House on Friday and Saturday. If you've already visited the truck, they are switching up some of the flavors, with daily additions like Sweet Corn and Black Raspberry and Backyard Mint. This Saturday will be their final day at SouthBites, so don't miss out on this rare opportunity to taste the book.
