Taste sweet treats and learn their plant origins at Sweet Saturdays

"The Chicago Park District and the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance are excited to celebrate the return of Sweet Saturdays,” said Mary Eysenbach, Director of Conservatories. “This family friendly event highlights the plants in our collection that help create the different varieties of candy we love so much.”

Sweet Saturdays will help visitors discover the plant sources of bananas, vanilla beans, cinnamon bark, chocolate other the delicious flavors that draw us to our favorite treats.

The Garfield Park Conservatory's 3rd annual 2011 Sweet Saturdays event will take place on February 5th and 12th from 11am -4pm at the Garfield Park Conservatory located at 300 N. Central Park Ave. The suggested donation is $3 and admission is free for Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance members and children 3 and younger.

Activities at both Sweet Saturdays include tropical treat tasting stations, live music , and hands-on activity stations.

Visitors can also learn about locally produced maple syrup and honey.
