Taste of the Town - Downtown event to be held on April 12 from 6-9 p.m.

Weaver Academy is sponsoring Taste of the Town - Downtown at the Cultural Arts Center in downtown Greensboro on Monday, April 12 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. The entry ticket cost is only $5.00 (children under 6 are free) and $1.00 food tickets are available for purchase. Most food samples cost $1.00, but some are $2.00 and $3.00 which is based on the portion size.

Taste of the Town is a fundraiser for 16 students and two teachers from Weaver who will be attending the Fringe Festival in Scotland. Weaver's invitation to the festival is a privilege and honor that displays their high excellence of academics intermixed with the emphasis in the dramatic arts. In addition, 10% of the proceeds will go directly into the budgetary fund for Weaver's Drama Department for special trainings and monetary needs for the plays they will present in the upcoming year.

Drama Theatre Booster Secretary Cindy Hawkes and several other parents have worked hard to make this event possible. This event benefits Weaver, but also gives Greensboro an opportunity to sample fine foods. Some of the participating restaurants include:

  • Basil's & Co.
  • Brixx Wood Fired Pizza
  • Café Pasta
  • Five Guys
  • Kiosco Mexican Grill
  • Let’s Dish
  • Opa! Taverna,
  • P.F. Chang's
  • Phoenix Asian Cuisine
  • Riva’s Trattoria
  • Ruth’s Chris
  • Table 16
  • Taste of Thai

Even if your family has picky eaters, they will find something to eat. "There will something for everyone -- American cuisine, Italian, Asian, Chinese, Greek, and Mexican," said Hawkes. "We even have burgers and pizza! So you can snack or have a meal – whichever you prefer! There will also be frozen yogurt available, if there’s room for dessert after tasting."

The event will take place inside the Cultural Arts Center on the first and second floors. There will also be wine and beer tastings on the patio.

In addition to beverage and food samplings, entertainment will be going on throughout the night. "There will be intermittent entertainment provided by the students from Weaver Academy, and the student orchestra from The Academy at Lincoln will be performing as well," said Hawkes. "There will also be silent auction items available for bidding from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m."

So for a chance to sample excellent food and beverages, hear some great music, see uplifting entertainment, and also offer support for young people to pursue their interest in the arts, come out on Monday, April 12 for Taste of the Town - Downtown.
