It's starting out a little overcast today in the normally sunny Florida Keys, but there still are fun things to do. Just be prepared and sally forth to these opportunities:
In Marathon today, March 30, the 17th Annual Taste of the Islands is presented by the Marathon chapter of Business and Professional Women. The event features "tastes" of participating local restaurants vying for best-of honors for appetizer, dessert or entree. Tasters can buy 10 tickets for $20. From noon until 4 p.m. at the Key Colony Beach City Park grounds, admission is free. Music, vendors, fashion show, live and silent auction are on tap. Proceeds benefit BPW scholarships and Keys community projects. Call for information & tickets: 305-393-9501 or 305-731-6368
In Key West, there is the Monthly Artisan Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Restaurant Store parking lot. The event gives residents and visitors a chance to shop fresh and local as the parking lot at 1111 Eaton St. is transformed into a showcase of art, photography and unique local handicrafts and gifts made exclusively in the Keys. Entertainment includes a singer and songwriter showcase, local authors, Key West Fringe theater performances, chef demonstrations, kids' activities and live street art murals. Guests are able to taste and buy local specialties, and enjoy concessions, beer and wine. Guests are encouraged to BYOB (bring your own bags).

Also this afternoon in Key West, Impromptu Classical Concerts of Key West presents Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, renowned for violins. Their music will make you soar, according to organizers. The New York Times states, " . . . warm, full-blooded and virtuosic playing with colorfully shaped, gleaming phrases." Performance is at 4 p.m. at Tennessee Williams Theater. Tickets $30 and $50.
