Taste of the Hudson Valley®, bringing regional culinary purveyors together for 25 years, is an annual fundraiser benefiting Saint Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Poughkeepsie, NY. Referred to as “the premier food and wine pairing event of the Northeast!” on their website, Taste of the Hudson Valley® is either being courted or usurped by Hudson Valley Casino & Resort according to this headline on Mid-Hudson News Network: Hudson Valley Casino & Resort to host seasonal ‘Taste of the Hudson Valley”
The gist of their story is a by-now common occurrence among the 20 remaining contenders for casino licenses. They all seem to be enticing local businesses and municipalities with promises of jobs, showcases for regional products and millions in annual payments to hosting communities and their neighbors. This “King Kong” finesse would leave anyone wondering how the Empire State, and the Hudson Valley and Catskills in particular, survived before their offers of largesse.
With the possibility of three licenses slated for our region, (if you count the Eastern Southern Tier as our region) contenders are lining up to procure, some might say purchase, local support for their respective sites. Whether they are preempting existing registered events, generously underwriting them, or both, it appears as if casinos will make every effort to portray their gambling presence in a favorable light.
The selection of Gaming Facility Operators will be announced in “early fall.” Hold onto your hats and trademarks everyone, this ride could get bumpy!
