The Taste of Polonia fest at Chicago’s Copernicus Center is on Labor Day weekend, Fri.-Sat.-Sun. and Mon., Aug. 30-31 and Sept 1-2, 2013. The largest Polish festival in the nation, Taste of Polonia is in the Jefferson Park neighborhood, on the northwest side of Chicago.
Taste of Polonia offers the flavor of Poland with food from local vendors. The menu includes dishes such as Polish sausage, sauerkraut, stuffed cabbage, pierogi, blintzes, potato pancakes, hot dogs, ribs, shish kabob, kolazche and more.
Taste of Polonia celebrates its 33rd year with more bands. There are five stages of live music, with 32 bands playing over the weekend. There is music for every taste, including rock, pop, folk, jazz, dance, polka, world, etc.. Some of the musical highlights at the Tribute Stage include: CTA Chicago Tribute Authority, American English, Pink Freud, Street Survivor, ABBA Salute, Rico, Planet Groove, Rick Saucedo as Elvis and Gentlemen of Leisure.
The family oriented ethnic festival offers fun for the entire family. Activities include Casino, arcade games, free cooking classes, a Kids Stage & activities. The Festival Marketplace is a place to shop for old-world treasures that make great gifts or mementos.
Festival hours: Fri. (5-11 p.m.), Sat. 12-11 p.m., Sun. 12-11 p.m. and Mon. 12-10 p.m. Admission is $7; $5 for seniors (65 & over); kids under 12 are admitted free.
The festival is one block from the Jefferson Park Terminal, so public transportation may be the best way to travel and is highly recommended.
Unlimited Free parking at Wright College parking lot is available at 4300 N. Narragansett Ave. Free air conditioned coaches to shuttle guests to and from the festival grounds will run Fri., Sat., Sun. and Mon. during festival hours until 11 p.m.
Proceeds benefit the non-profit work of the Copernicus Foundation.
