The government shutdown may close the parks and museums but you can find another reason to come to downtown Washington this Columbus Day Weekend for fun. The Taste of DC 2013 goes on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 7 pm with food from 70 local restaurants plus entertainment on three stages.
Admission costs $10 ($5 for children fie to 12, younger ones can attend free) plus tasting tickets, which range from $1 to $3 each. You can buy online and get details at http://thetasteofdc.org/.
Forecast calls for temperatures in the 60s with a chance of rain each day, so you might want to bring an umbrella just in case.
The event also features a beer garden and wine walk offering samples of more than 50 beers and wines.
The Taste of DC runs along Pennsylvania Av. NW between 9th and 14th streets.
The entertainment features cooking demos and eating contests as well as music and shows suitable for children.
