Taser used at Scrapin the Coast 2010 on Camaro driver

"Don't tase me bro" has a very personal meaning to this unfortunate fourth generation Camaro owner. According to the YouTube witness description, the Camaro did a burnout and was cited. After being let free, he burned the tires again; the rest is history. This video brings up the question of taser use and when it's needed. This is obviously a non-threatening situation as the driver is simply using a cell phone. What harm can a cell phone do? I could understand taser use if he put his hands in his pockets, tried to run away, etc. Seriously, this guy appears to be causing no harm on the following video.

Let's break down the situation. Talking to the driver through the passenger window, the officer decides to walk around to the front of the vehicle. The driver gets out, and appears to be dialing on a cell phone. The officer then decided that a taser was proper to use against the villainous cell phone user. Is performing a burnout and then dialing on a cell phone just for taser use? Maybe the dude just got a text message, easy there RoboCop.

There's many things unknown to this story, and I'm sure there will be a lot uncovered as time goes on. Right now, all we know is that a Camaro owner got tased during the "Scrapin the Coast" event for not listening to a police officer. We've got to consider the officer's position too; what would you do? For all you know this guy could have a gun, knife, or maybe even a 50 pounds of TNT strapped to his jockstrap. He might even be toting tires full of anthrax and that's why he was burning the tires, biological warfare. Ridiculous right? Just as ridiculous as using a taser. Seriously officer "Taizimall", you fail. What if this guy happened to be #246 out out of the current 245 people confirmed to be killed by taser use according to wikipedia, as reported by Amnesty International?

Question of the day: What happened to good ol' pepper spray?

How to NOT get Tased: Comply with the officer's instructions. Keep your hands where the officer can see them.

Probably will be ruled a legit use of force.

245 people haven't been killed by tasers. Most have died because of medical conditions that existed before or because of their use of illegal drugs. Regardless, he refused to follow instructions, making him a passive resister and the taser is a better alternative than smacking him in the head with a stick isn't it? Let's not forget guns and taser that are disguised as cell phones too. From reading this and other stories, it appears you don't really like cops.

Often Amnesty International gets wrongly attributed to the phrase, “Amnesty states 351 number of people were killed by” or that “According to Amnesty, the TASER caused the death of 351 people…”

However, you can review page 20 on the actual Amnesty Report -- the overall 26th page in the PDF on Amnesty web site (search for "USA: Safety of Tasers questioned as death toll hits 334-mark") to see that they do not go on record as stating 300+ deaths were “caused” by TASER ECDs. In fact, the report clearly states, “Amnesty International does not suggest that TASERs necessarily caused or contributed to each of these deaths.”

It should also be noted that by its own admission, Amnesty International has conducted no medical studies and has done no direct evaluation of TASER® electronic control devices.
