For the 22nd year, Keep America Beautiful is staging a nation wide, volunteer based, community improvement program. The Great American Cleanup is coming to a location near you. In Tarpon Springs, Keep America Beautiful, Keep Pinellas Beautiful, and the Tarpon Springs Parks and Recreation Department are rallying local groups and individuals to clean up Sunset Beach.
Tarpon Springs Recreation Department has organized a cleanup event for Sunset Beach Park on Saturday, March 9th from 8:00 – 10:00 AM. They are asking for volunteers to come and help clean up the beach. This is an excellent way for people to give back to a community that is preserving one of the last beaches in the area with free parking and no access fees.
How about it folks? Can you spare a couple of hours out of your Saturday?
If you are willing to help, just show up at Sunset Beach City Park in some comfortable work clothes, and a pair of old sneakers. Don’t forget your gloves. Picking up trash is dirty work.
Volunteers are meeting up in the parking lot at the western end of Gulf Road. For more information, call Scott Smith of the Rec department at 727-942-5628, extension 3.
This is the kick off event for this year’s campaign in Pinellas County. Those who want to help, but can’t on March 9, can visit www.mykpb.com/great-american-cleanup.html for information on other coastal cleanup locations going on between March 9 and June 29. Our coastline needs your help.
