What's a fishing village without seafood? Sure there are great Greek Restaurants and plenty of sponges, but this Gulf Coast town started off with fishing. The Tarpon Springs Merchants Association agrees and is bringing Seafood to the forefront again.
The Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks Seafood Festival resumes on the weekend of November 9-10. Historic Tarpon Springs has resurrected this popular local event after a five year hiatus, so calling it the "26th Annual Sponge Docks Seafood Festival" is a bit of a misnomer. That shouldn't stop anyone from dropping by to sample the seafood.
While you're there have a look around at the arts and crafts show, stay for live music from some great area performers, and participate in the "best of" contest. After all, Tarpon Springs is not only famous for the worlds finest sponges. This town is also home to many of the area's celebrated events such as this one. Tarpon Springs features some of the finest Greek restaurants, markets, and bakeries in the country. Many of these are located on the Docks and feature some wonderful seafood dishes.
The Docks are at 828 Dodecanese Blvd. Admission is free. Conveniently located parking is available near the event. Hours are from 11 AM to 6 PM on November 9 and from 10 AM to 6 PM on the 10th.
