Tariqka Sheffey is a soldier in the headlines today accused of being 'disrespectful' after posting a picture of herself online. She wrote a caption for the picture saying that she is avoiding saluting the flag, which was almost immediately seen as disrespectful.

Sheffey, who posted a picture of herself on Instagram with the caption that conveyed she was hiding in her car to avoid the salute, seemed to be aware that this picture would conjure up some negative comments, according to NBC News on Feb. 27.

Sheffy wrote under her picture:

"This is me laying back in my car hiding so I don't have to salute the (5 p.m. flag ceremony).”

She must have had an inkling that this picture would not be received well because she continued in all capital letters:

When the story first broke out in the Army Times, they were able to capture the picture before Sheffey took the picture down. The picture did start an uproar, even the base where she is stationed issued a statement over this post saying that they were aware of this picture allegedly posted by Pfc. Tariqka Sheffey

Sheffey, who is a private first class in the U.S. Army, took to the social networks once again, posting a video on Instagram. She said on the video:

"I seriously just want to say thank you to everybody who stood up for me today, like seriously. That s--- to me was not that serious. I am not a disrespectful soldier and I really appreciate you all.”

While Sheffey was just playing a joke and swears she is not at all disrespectful, this picture comes on the heels of the group of soldiers last week goofing around with a coffin that had a flag draped over it. They said that they “put the ‘fun’ in funerals.

This was seen as highly disrespectful and caused quite the uproar after people saw this coffin picture online.
