This weekend Target will begin offering its own prepaid mobile service brand , called “Brightspot”, to compete with Walmart's “Straight Talk” and other prepaid plans, according to an Oct 2 report in c\net.
Customers will be able to get unlimited talk and text for just $35.00 a month with “Brightspot” but no data. For $15.00 a month more consumers can get 1GB of data. Or consumers can opt for a $65.00 plan that provides 4GB of data monthly. As long as customers continue to use “Brightspot”, they receive a $25.00 Target gift card every six months.
“Brightspot” uses T-Mobile's 4G nationwide network. Consumers can choose from a variety of smartphones and feature phones. Customers can even bring their own unlocked phone (an unlocked phone is a handset that can be used by different wireless carriers).
Target's entry in the budget mobile service market shows how fiercely competitive the no-contract industry is becoming as consumers increasingly opt for the flexibility and lower prices of prepaid service or even free service.
