In order to stay competitive with other retailers and online sites Target has announced that will guarantee to match the lowest price on equivalent items at many major retailers.
The official policy from the Target website states:
"If you buy a qualifying item at a Target store then find the identical item for less in the following week's Target weekly ad or within 7 days at Target.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, ToysRUs.com, BabiesRUs.com or in a competitors local printed ad we will match the price."
Price match may be requested ar Guest Services prior to purchasewith proof of current lower price or after purchase by bringing your original Target store reciept and proof of the current lower price.

This new program is aimed at drawing the customer back into the store and getting them to purchase in-store since they are now guaranteed the lowest price, they won't have to wait for the item, and they won't have the additional cost of shipping. Target also seems to be doing some proactive temporary price cuts through in store signage. A recent amazon.com search yielded a $49 price on a conair garment steamer and when it was searched for on the Target website they had already reduced the price in store and online to reflect that price.
