Target and Neiman Marcus collaborated back in Dec. 2012. The two retail giants brought in collections from Oscar de la Renta and Marc Jacobs. This limited edition collection was only available during the holiday season. The Independent Florida Alligator reported on Jan. 17 that the collection didn't do so well.
In fact, the collection was unsuccessful. It was predicted to be busy in stores and at Target.com. The website was expected to crash the day the collection debuted.
Time Magazine called the Neiman Marcus and Target collaboration an "epic fail." Fashion critics called the displays "cheap" and "tacky." The stores are now selling the items at 70 percent off, desperate to get rid of them.
Fashionista.com predicts that consumers weren't familiar with the designers. Target is expected to collaborate with luxury fashion designer Prabal Gurung. His collection won't debut in stores and online until Feb. 10.
The fashion world was buzzing when he made his announcement in Oct. 2012. It's possible that fashion lovers will clamor to Target to get a hold of his low-cost collection. His line will include floral skirts, jackets and dresses, just in time for spring and Valentine's Day.
