Dinner and a show has never looked quite like this before, or at least your typical idea of dinner and a show. Denver-based choreographer Tara Rynders is opening up her home to present “You and Me”, a multi-media project she began as an MFA candidate at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Department of Dance in 2011. Utilizing the various rooms and spaces in and around her home the audience journeys through while they witness different movement installations as the evening progresses. All culminating in a family style sit down dinner where the audience and performers come together to share a feast.

Since premiering “You and Me” in Denver and graduating, Rynders and company (an ever-changing cast, plus returning members) have toured extensively to San Francisco, Montana, Maine and Europe. The cast moves in new and innovative directions while collaborating with local artists at each new destination to create a new event every time.

There is a degree of charm and warmth that starts even before you arrive. About a week prior to the performance Tara personally sends messages to her guests (audience members) asking several questions so that the evening is tailored to meet their needs, tastes and desires. Questions include food allergies, favorite music to dance to and a request for the guest to pick 6 performers to have an intimate connection with during the performance. When receiving the email one feels that Rynders is truly interested in nurturing their experience to the fullest as she prepares to welcome them into her home. A truly caring hostess, indeed! Perhaps her compassionate approach to her creative work is tied in and influenced by her other career. As Tara shared, “When not dancing and traveling I moonlight as an Emergency Room and Hospice nurse. I am honored to witness and experience intimate moments alongside my patients on a daily basis. I am continually inspired by them to live life to the fullest with a fierce understanding of love and compassion.”

There are over 15 artists and inspired chefs coming together to provide a unique, site-specific interactive experience. There are four opportunities to join the fun, food, art, live music and dance, but you must hurry. Space is limited to keep the intimate feel of the evening. Don’t miss your chance!
