Something sure sells fishy! Tara Reid has launched a new perfume – and it’s inspired by her role as April in SyFy’s “Sharknado” movies. The “Sharknado” and “Sharknado 2: The Second One” alum has released a new scent called Shark by Tara Reid, according to a report on Friday by People.
The actress’s website describes the $24.95 fragrance as “a complex scent with three different levels of nodes,” including notes of iced mint, violet, lemon, jasmine, amber and musk. A plethora of “lavender" colored flowers have also been incorporated into the concoction because lavender is Tara’s favorite color. And because color has everything to do with fragrance, right?
While Reid is clearly banking on her “Sharknado” popularity for this venture (“The Second One” took SyFy by storm last week), is a fragrance inspired by a deadly fish tornado the best idea?
Earlier this year, Market Watch reported that celeb scent sales were down, with Elizabeth Arden reporting declines in licensed celebrity-fragrance sales. In particular, the Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift fragrances took a nosedive, but even sales for the late Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic fragrances dropped.
So with hundreds of new celeb scents released every year, will Shark sink or swim? Indeed, it’s a crowed pool with everyone from Katy Perry to Jay-Z to Snooki fighting for shelf space. (Reid’s scent is only available on her website – for now.) And even A-listers aren’t guaranteed successful fragrance sales. Jennifer Aniston’s Lovalie bombed a few years ago, as did Queen Latifah’s fragrance.
Of course, diehard “Sharnado” fans may decide to spritz on some Shark just because it’s campy and because they can. And Reid’s scent could even be the finishing touch for an entire ensemble, because pop culture retailer Hot Topic has debuted an entire line of Sharknado-themed tee-shirts. The humor shirt line includes “I Survived Sharnkado” tees, and shirts that say “Fins Bar & Restaurant,” and “Sharknado Defense Team,” as well as a hilarious weather forecast tee that has Saturday calling for … sharks.
