TAPS on Westcott St.

Taps Bar and Restaurant, well forget the restaurant part, but it has been called that for as long as I remember. I popped in for the first time in about 15 years on a recent night that I went to review Hinder at the Westcott Theater.

The place hasn't changed a bit and I'm pretty sure a bunch of the guys lining the bar were in those spots 15 years ago. Taps is simply a neighborhood dive bar, nothing fancy about it and isn't that why so many people like a 'dive bar'? Simplicity and familiar faces.

Munjed(sp) the owner was there and we chatted quite a bit, he's seen and heard it all and people tend to complain that he rubs them the wrong way, but seriously, he is a good guy and always has been to me. He just doesn't allow already drunk people in and runs a tight ship with regards to troublemakers. He offered me a cold one, but, working a show for a review I passed for another day. We talked about the old days when a group of us were working construction over the hill on the campus, the dart leagues, etc.

Taps is a hang-out place with a core of customers that all seem to know each other one way or another. There are a few TV's for the games, a well used jukebox, pool table, and a couple of other games. Nothing all that fancy, but then again, this isn't a themed or nightclub style place. Just a cool neighborhood bar by the SU campus. If you want Chili's, go there. If you want just a regular place, go check out Taps. And please, leave the kids home.
