On Friday, January 28th, Free the Hops and Junior Board of the Autism Society of Alabama will host Tapped: A Food and Beer Pairing. This event will be held at Ted’s Garage from 6 pm to 10 pm.
This is an event to benefit the Autism Society of Alabama, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the services for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their families through education and advocacy. Tapped will showcase an assortment of fine foods from some of Birmingham's best restaurants, and Free the Hops will also be on hand to pour and pair craft beer from some of the best breweries of the Southeast. These craft brews will be paired with the dishes to show that beer is a fantastic compliment to a wide array of foods. Free the Hops has always been very active with area charities, and this is a chance for them to promote both a very worthy cause and craft beer culture in Birmingham.
The menu will include the following items from the following Birmingham area restaurants:
MAFIAoZA’s Italian Eatery
Meatballs with marinara sauce
Imported meats and cheeses from their Picollo menu
Jackson’s Bar and Bistro
Bacon Cheeseburger Tacos
Beer Cheese Dip (made with Jackson's Pale Ale by Yazoo Brewing in Nashville)
Packin' Heat Chili
The J. Clyde
Okra salad tossed with lime cilantro dressing
Yeti Imperial Stout-infused pudding
Maki Fresh
TOKYO BOWL not so fried rice, chicken, steak, fresh corn, tomatoes, cilantro, carrots
The dinner will be served with various styles of beers from Straight to Ale, Yazoo Brewing Company, Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company, Good People Brewing Company, Olde Towne Brewing Company, and Back Forty Beer Company. The exact beer pairings should be available on the Tapped website closer to the event date.
In addition to the fine food and craft beer, there will also be live music from LiveWire, and an auction. The auction will consist of many rare/fine craft beers, beer related art work, and weekend passes to the upcoming Magic City Brewfest.
The cost of this event is $20 per person in advance (click here to order online), or $25 at the door. All of the proceeds raised at this event will benefit the Autism Society of Alabama. You cannot beat $20-25 for a night of great food, fantastic craft beer, live music, and a chance to help the very worthy cause of the Autism Society of Alabama. It does not matter if you are new to craft beer or long time connoisseur, this event will be a non-intimidating way to enjoy and further educate yourself about what craft beer has to offer. So, if you do not have plans for this Friday, make some to attend this worthwhile event. It will most definitely prove to be an affordable, educational, and entertaining night out. Prost!
