Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada's Days of Wine and Chocolate event (occurring on weekends from February 1- February 24) offers the perfect excuse for an ideal romantic weekend journey or for a fun girls' getaway where you can indulge in a bit of decadence that will please your palate. Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada is approximately a 4.5 hour drive from Cleveland.
Days of Wine and Chocolate Visitors will have 4 weekends to tour the 28 wineries of the Niagara-on-the-Lake region (from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.) where you can savor the delectable flavors of the pairings of locally produced wines and locally handcrafted chocolates at each stop. More than 44,000 handmade chocolates are expected to be produced.
You never know what you will find at each winery as you discover some classic flavor combinations and some unique, unexpected pairings. Here are just a few of the pairings that await you. Inniskillin Winery will be presenting a 2008 Vidal Icewine with chocolate peanut butter balls. Joseph's Estate Wines will provide a 2009 Cabernet Franc with milk chocolate Toblerone cheescake.
Konzelman Estate Winery will offer a Fresco Secco Sparking Riesling with an opera slice (almond butter cake layered with espresso buttercream, frangelico ganache and an espresso hazelnut syrup) and Pondview Estate Winery will present a 2011 Select Lake Harvest Vidal paired with a banana chocolate tart.
Peller Estates Winery will feature an Andrew Peller Signature Series Ice Cuvee with candied bacon and chocolate sponge toffee while another unusual pairing can be found at the Reif Estate Winery where you can sample "The Magician" 2011 Pinot Shiraz with chocolate chili corn.
Touring passes allow you to visit each of the 28 wineries and are good for each of the 4 weekends of the event in February. Days of Wine and Chocolate Touring Passes are $35 per person plus tax and can be purchased by calling 905-469-1950. Tickets can also be purchased at any of the 28 wineries or by getting online at www.niagaraonthelake.com.
A Designated Driver Touring Pass is also available for $25 plus tax and is valid for food offerings and non-alcoholic drinks.
