Tonight, Chico's flavor profile will become a little bit fuller, and those who have felt something has been missing since the closing of Redwood Forest might find something to raise their glass to: at 4:00 this afternoon, a old spot is being reborn as Tannins Wine Bar and Bistro.
The old spot, formerly housing Caffe Malvina, has a whole new feel and ambiance, thanks to a fresh coat of paint and some structural alterations. It promises to be a great addition to the Third Street scene, complementing Chef Becky's Spice Creek Cafe and Christian Michael's Ristorante, Tannins is located at 234 W Third Street, and is being opened by Owner Tori and Chef Ryan Mothorn, formerly of The Pour House.
The menu looks very promising, including Chicken Marsala Crostini ($8), Sun Dried Tomato Hummus ($7), Steak Sliders ($10), and Chicken Croquettes ($8).
The wine list is quite varied, and there are also beers on tap, and while there are no age restrictions due to their extensive menu, it promises to be a positive and light spot for happy hours and pre-theatre dinners, complementing Monk's Wine Bar, Crush, CM's, and the much later- opening Spice Creek.
Look for my upcoming assessment, with more detailed info. No phone or Web page available yet, but Tori promises, "They are coming."
