Tangents begins a fundraising campaign through crowdsourcing

Last season saw the launch of Tangents, a highly innovative concert series focusing on the diversity and depth of the contemporary guitar repertoire. Directed by guitarists Giacomo Fiore and Steve Lin, the first season offered six eclectic acts, four by Bay Area residents. These were not restricted to solo recitals, since Lin performed as half of the Black Cedar duo with Kris Palmer, performing on wood flute, alto flute, recorder, and piccolo, and The Living Earth Show (guitarist Travis Andrews and percussionist Andrew Meyerson) offered another duo recital.

Plans have now been made for the 2013 season. The number of performances will be scaled back to four, but the repertoire will be just as innovative and diverse. Premieres have been scheduled for the composers Renaud Cote-Giguere, Benjamin Dameron, Santiago Gutierrez, and Ross Thompson.

Nevertheless the new season still needs to be funded, and the directors have decided to follow the path of other local groups and initiate a crowdsourcing campaign managed through a Web site maintained by IndieGoGo. As visitors to that Web page will see, the goal is to raise $1500 by the end of the day on Saturday, February 23. As with other IndieGoGo campaigns, perks will be offered for different levels of donation, beginning as low as $5 and going up to one gift available for a $300 contribution.

Visitors unfamiliar with Tangents are invited to view the video at the left, which features artists from both the planned and past seasons.
