Tampa rapist, Joseph Frye, accused of burglary week prior to Seminole rape (video)

Joseph Frye, the confessed rapist and convicted felon that lead police on a week long search, is accused of breaking into a home one week prior to the Seminole rape of a 65 year old woman. Authorities said that as they continued to investigate the crime, they filed additional charges against Frye for the previous burglary, according to a report by the St. Petersburg Times.

The burglary occurred on August 21, 2009 and with the discovery of the additional crime, Joseph Frye faces a total of ten charges. These include 1count of burglary of a dwelling with assault or battery, 1 count of robbery with a firearm greater than $300.00, 3 counts of sexual battery deadly weapon with force causing injury (Frye raped the elderly woman three times), 1 count of burglary of an unoccupied structure, 1 count Grand Theft Third Degree ($10,000- $20,000), 1 count false information on pawnbroker form, and 1 count dealing in stolen property. The last four charges were added on September 4, 2009.

Joseph Frye was in court for his first appearance on Friday August 28, 2009. A convicted felon and registered sex offender; Joseph Frye had been paroled on August 1, 2009. By August 7, 2009, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Frye had failed to register his new address, as is pursuant to Florida law. Joseph Frye was supposed to stay at the Alaska Motel located in Tampa. By August 10, 2009, Tampa Police received the notice from Hillsborough County Sheriff’s that Frye was unaccounted for. There has been no explanation as why it took three days before Joseph Frye’s information was forwarded to the correct jurisdiction. Furthermore, it took 10 days before Tampa Police began to check on Joseph Frye’s whereabouts, according to the report in the St. Petersburg Times. The first burglary that police are aware of occurred on August 21, 2009. Still missing and unaccounted for, Joseph Frye’s status was changed to ‘absconded’ on August 24, 2009.

Joseph Frye was finally captured on September 3, 2009.  He is in the Orient Road Jail being held without bond.
