Tampa Headlines: Hulk Hogan in hospital, Tampa responds to Koran burning, Dove World Outreach Center
There’s plenty of news making Tampa headlines on September 7, 2010. From the recent hospitalization of famed wrestler and Tampa Bay resident Hulk Hogan to the response in Tampa Bay to the announcement that Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center continues with plans to burn Korans on the nine year anniversary of 9/11. Hulk Hogan Tweets about Hospitalization in Morton Plant Hospital
Hulk Hogan is currently hospitalized at Clearwater, Florida’s Morton Plant Hospital and he is actively tweeting and sharing his experience. In the videos, Hulk Hogan revealed that severe back pain landed him in the hospital.

Pastor Terry Jones of Dove World Outreach Center continues with plans to burn Korans on 9/11
Pastor Terry Jones has drawn nationwide fury with his decision to hold an “International burn a Koran Day” on the property of his Gainesville church, Dove World Outreach Center. Though the church has few members (approximately 50) that hasn’t stopped Dove World Outreach Center from gaining international attention. General Petraeus has denounced the planned event saying that it endangers the lives of soldiers. September 11, 2010 falls on this coming Saturday.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs spoke about Terry Jones’ Koran burning plans during the daily press briefing,” Any type of activity like that that puts our troops in harm's way would be a concern to this administration.”
The Koran burning is to take place Saturday evening for three hours and the Korans that will be burned were donated to the ministry. The images of Jones and his congregation burning the Korans could be replayed indefinitely by radical Muslims, threatening years of work and efforts made in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Soldiers serving in Muslim countries are well versed in matters of religious difference, and the widely publicized Koran burning may have deadly consequences for our soldiers.
Pastor Terry Jones spoke about the planned Koran burning on television, “We first declared September the 11th international burn a Koran day, actually, for two reasons. Number one, we wanted to remember those who were brutally murdered on September 11th. And actually wanted to send a very clear message to the radical element of Islam. We wanted to send a very clear message to them that we are not interested in their Sharia law.
We do not tolerate their threats, their fear, their radicalness. We live in the United States of America. We want to send a clear message to the peaceful Muslims. We have freedom of speech. We have freedom of religion.”
Though this is what Terry Jones says his actions and intent signify something different. Muslims died in 9/11 and to think that they would be ‘honored’ by the burning of the Koran in their memory is unimaginable.
Additionally, Terry Jones says he wants to send a ‘clear message’ to the radical element of Islam. Isn’t that what the war is for? If Terry Jones truly wants to send a clear message, maybe he should consider supporting American troops rather than provoking the enemy.
The topic was discussed today on The St. Petersburg Times’ message boards. One poster named Just the Facts wrote, “Why give this inbred, Neanderthal from TN so much press? He can harm our troops. Have you seen his flock? They all have the combined IQ of an ice tray and the beauty of a talk radio audience. Expect him to use this to either run for office or build a following. He didn't do this for no reason. He couldn't buy this attention. He is too flat out dumb. As much as I disagree with Islam, no holy book should be burned.”
Another user named Snookmaster spoke about the planned Koran burning under the guise of Christianity, “These people are an embarrassment to everyone in the state. Ask yourselves, would Jesus burn a copy of the Koran? People like these are just as bad as the terrorists, they give all Christians a bad name, and, endanger our troops by inflaming all Muslims.”
