The New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were not even on the field for five minutes on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, before they had to head back to the locker rooms. A big storm rolled into the area and lightning struck close to the stadium forcing both teams back indoors for a delay that lasted over an hour, but as they came back out, it got interesting.
It took every single second of the game, but the Saints pulled out a 16-14 victory with a last-second field goal.
New Orleans came out and had a pretty good opening drive that ended up stalling and resulting in a 44-yard field goal by Garrett Hartley. That would appear to be the story of the day for the Saints as points were left on the field a lot and left on the foot of number five.
After forcing a punt from the Buccaneers, Drew Brees came out and threw a first play of the Saints next possession. That would eventually lead to five-yard touchdown pass from Josh Freeman to Kevin Ogletree.
From that point on, it would become the Jimmy Graham show. By halftime, Graham had eight receptions for 156 yards and one touchdown. His scoring reception came when he was left wide open by the Bucs and he marched right down the field for a 56-yard touchdown.
At halftime, the Saints led the Buccaneers 10-7.
The third quarter brought a mess of a game with two stalled drives from the Saints resulting in one more field goal for a 13-7 lead. The Buccaneers saw Freeman fumble the ball away and then throw an interception straight to Malcolm Jenkins.
Finally, early in the fourth quarter, something went the Buccaneers' way. The Saints were driving and deep in Bucs territory, but Brees threw an interception straight to Mason Foster who returned it 85 yards for a touchdown to put Tampa up 14-13.
From there, it got to the point where the Bucs worked on running out the clock and got it down to just a little over a minute and Tampa's Rian Lindell came out and missed a 47-yard field goal. That gave Drew Brees and the Saints 1:06 to play with, and all they needed was a field goal.
And that was all that was needed as Brees hit Graham for 15 yards, Sproles for 8 yards, and then Marques Colston for 31 yards. With that, Hartley came in and hit a 27-yard field goal as time expired to give the Saints the win.
