New Years Eve 2013 turned out to be another cloudy and rather cool day in and around Tampa Bay. While morning lows started out at a rather mild 60 degrees across the area, the extensive cloud cover limited highs to the upper 60s for the second day in the row on Monday afternoon. However, as of 8 p.m. New Years Eve evening, the cloud cover had produced no precipitation.
However, after midnight, forecasters expect rainfall to move into west-central Florida. The rain will start early New Year's Day morning, and will last through Thursday. Temperatures should warm up for New Years Day and Thursday, which will help make the cloud cover and rainfall more tolerable.
Forecast for New Years Day and Thursday in Tampa Bay
Rainfall coverage will increase from around 30 percent New Year's Day morning up to around 70 percent on Thursday afternoon ahead of an approaching frontal boundary. A few thunderstorms are possible by Thursday as the front approaches west-central Florida, but no severe weather is expected with this system.

Much cooler weather for Friday behind the frontal boundary
As the front moves through west-central Florida on Thursday evening, much cooler weather will into Tampa Bay. Showers will taper off by Friday morning, with clearing skies by Friday afternoon. After morning lows between 50 and 55 degrees Friday morning, the colder air mass will limit highs to between 60 and 65 days on Friday afternoon.
Saturday morning temperatures will cool even more, as lows will drop to between 40 and 50 degrees. However, highs on Saturday afternoon will climb to between 68 and 75 degrees under partly cloudy skies.
