The Tampa Bay Krewe Rugby Football Club (RFC) dominated the Jacksonville RFC Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18, on the Krewe's home pitch, Cuscaden Park, located in the Ybor City section of Tampa.
In the match, the Krewe defeated Jacksonville by a final score of 61 to 20. Tampa Bay relied on nine tries and eight conversions to earn the Krewe 61 points, and limited Jacksonville to two tries, one penalty kick, and one conversion for that club's 20 points.
Tampa Bay enjoys a Saturday off this week, as the city celebrates Gasparilla with the day parade along Tampa's Bayshore Boulevard. The Krewe will host the Naples Hammerheads on Saturday, Feb. 1. Meanwhile, Jacksonville gets an extra weekend to prepare for the club's upcoming match against the Daytona Beach Coconuts RFC next Saturday.
Hammerheads hold on to beat Boston Old Boys
The Naples Hammerheads RFC hosted the Boston Old Boys Saturday afternoon at Estero Community Park – the home pitch for the Hammerheads. Naples held on to beat Boston by a final score of 24 to 21.
In the match, the Hammerheads scored four tries and two conversions to earn their 24 points. The Boston Old Boys scored three tries and three conversions to earn their 21 points. Naples resumes in-state rugby season this Saturday, Jan. 25, as the club travels to Miami for a match up against the Tridents.
Griffins brutalized by Buccaneers Saturday afternoon in Boca Raton
Meanwhile, the Orlando Griffins RFC traveled to Boca Raton Saturday afternoon to take on the Boca Raton Buccaneers RFC at Don Estridge Middle School, the home pitch for the Buccaneers. In the match, Boca Raton brutalized Orlando by a final score of 47 to 0.
This Saturday, Orlando Griffins travel to Fort Lauderdale (FTL) for a match against the FTL Knights RFC. Boca has the weekend off to prepare for its own match against Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, Feb. 1.
