For a child who arrived prematurely at just over three pounds, Tammy Rust has come a long way since that day in a one room hospital in the Gold Country town of Jackson, California.
She lives and practices in Santa Cruz, CA, holding a Masters Degree in Spiritual Psychology, a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration/Management, is a Certified Hypnotherapist (CHT), a past life regressionist and a Reiki practitioner.
“I see people as healed in advance and I hold that vision and then work with them toward their respective goals,” she says. With this thought in mind, the Holistic Health Examiner made an appointment with Trust Life Coaching and Hypnosis for a hypnotherapy session, with a focus on how to better retain dance choreography.
Sessions begin with a series of questions in which answers disclose how creative or analytical the client is. This guides Rust in framing the suggestions to be made. The lighting is lowered, and the client invited to rest comfortably on a plush sofa.
Sound effects match the subject of the session
Background sound effects play an important part. For instance, students with phobias about taking tests are put in a classroom environment with the sound of pencils dropping on the floor. In my case, a recording of soft flamenco music matched up with Latin dance choreography.
Gentle suggestions are offered. “If the mind wanders, just get back to listening to my voice. Your soul and subconscious will take in what it needs and only what feels like a fit. Think of it like a smorgasbord and only choose what is of value to you,” she said.
After several deep breaths, she counts down from 10 to 0 while guiding the complete relaxation of all the muscles of the body and the session begins.
Here is the basis of some of the suggestions received after achieving a state of deep calm.
When you hear Latin music the choreography will come to you just like breathing, like you’ve been doing it for years. It is stored in your body; trust that it is there.
Your breathing activates memory, clarity and precision. Dancing is another expression of who you are and it’s a given, just like your breath. You bring joy to all who witness your dancing.
The whole process takes about 20 minutes, but clients feel as refreshed as they would after a four-hour nap. When awakening on the count of five, I was told that I would have a feeling of well-being, like a person who couldn’t imagine ever missing a dance step.
Now in the process of putting this new confidence into practice, I feel that by listening to the recording of the session often, I will be able to achieve my goal.

Tammy Rust also counsels on Angel Therapy, a powerful method connecting with the divine realm; Aromatherapy, benefiting the body and mood through the flow of healing energy and Projective Dream Work, inviting clients to tap into dreams to enhance their waking life.
A goal she is chasing after is to be the kind of person that her cockapoo puppy thinks she is! This will happen when she finally publishes her inspirational memoir about the life transforming power of unconditional love.
