What can be said about a woman who has Cherokee blood flowing in her veins and can claim Thoreau, Emerson, and James Butler Hickok as ancestors? This same woman is also a judge for the Christy Awards, is an avid equestrian, homeschools her three children, and writes not only Christian fiction but edits manuscripts and mentors other writers. That incredible woman is Tammy Barley and she recently agreed to an interview with the San Francisco Christian Fiction Examiner.
E: You are a very busy lady! Do you have a regular writing schedule? What is a typical day like for you?
T: A typical day? It's like a buffalo stampede inside a tornado. LOL!
I'm a homeschool mom of three teens, so we start the day with an hour of physical education-good family time. We play a music CD-I'm partial to the Rocky soundtrack at that early hour of the morning (it gets the blood pumping)-and right now the kids get their workout doing jump somersaults and flips while I jog and run (we have a huge basement-big enough to swing an old Wells Fargo coach and six horses).
After that, I'm hogtied to the computer until dinnertime, which is when we also correct homework.
Of course, that's the idealized version. Work is frequently interrupted with, "Mom, why do I have to learn Algebra?" and "Mom, the computer typing program isn't working," as well as power outages that are common in the Midwest, and trying to quiet the dog who daily tries to capture the FedEx truck, despite the barrier of window glass.
E: Favorite verse of Scripture?
T: Too many to list, but here's one of my faves:
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9 NIV).
E: Do you also read historical fiction or do you also read other genres?
T: I love historical romance, but I also enjoy suspense and thrillers, especially those that have threads of romance. That's why I add elements of action and suspense to my own novels-they're highly enjoyable to write and to read. =)
Tomorrow Tammy will be discussing her newest release, Hope's Promise, which was released on August 3. That book, as well as Tammy's other titles, is available online at powells.com, berean.com, and familychristian.com. It's also available at stores throughout the nation including these located in northern California.

Great interview -- I appreciated your including the names of the brick and mortar bookstores that carry Tammy's books in your area.
