Talons Challenge now more challenging at Beaver Creek on March 2

Beaver Creek announced the ultimate challenge for skiers and snowboarders at the 10th annual Talons Challenge being held on Saturday, March 2.

New this year, the event gets even tougher with a boost in vertical and the number of runs to complete thanks to the addition of Kestrel trail, which was created as part of the new women’s speed course for the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. Kestrel adds 17 new acres of terrain to the resort and another run and roughly 2,000 more vertical feet to Talons Challenge.

Designed to showcase the resort’s steepest and bumpiest black diamond and double-black diamond runs, Talons Challenge participants will test their mettle and attempt to tackle all 14 runs on Golden Eagle trail, home of the legendary Birds of Prey World Cup, Grouse Mountain, and on the flanks of Larkspur Bowl.

In total, the event includes skiing or riding more than 26,000 vertical feet in one day. Those who successfully complete the Talons Challenge will receive a 10th anniversary edition Talons Challenge hat, a commemorative Talons Challenge pin and lanyard, plus they will earn a spot on the electronic Talons Wall-of-Fame at Red Tail Camp.

Participants should plan to stay around for the Talons Après Party and raffle at Red Tail Camp from 3:30-4 p.m. on Saturday and registered participants will receive a complimentary bratwurst and a Bud Light or non-alcoholic beverage.

Registration for Talons Challenge is now open and information is available at www.beavercreek.com/talonschallenge. Participants must supply their own ski pass or lift ticket for this event. Advance online registration is $35 and day-of registration is $40 cash-only. The Talons Challenge event is capped at 1,500 participants.

The Talons Challenge Lodging package features two nights of lodging with rates starting as low as $110 per person per night, with a two night minimum. It also includes 50 percent off of one event entry per person per booking. For complete package details and to book online, go to www.beavercreek.com/TalonsLodging or call 877-204-7883.

Beaver Creek Sports is offering early registration for Talons participants from 5-8 p.m. on Friday evening, March 1, in the village store and they will also offer 20 percent off non-sale items at that time.

During the Talons Challenge on Saturday, Beaver Creek Sports technicians will be offering a $35 Talons ski tune, 25 percent off of demo rentals and Talons Challenge participants who complete the event can show their event punch card and receive 20 percent off of non-sale items at The North Face, Patagonia, Smartwool, One Track Mind and Beaver Creek Sports stores in Beaver Creek.

The 10th Annual Talons Challenge is presented by Helly Hansen. Additional support is provided by Bud Light, GoPro, Smartwool and SOS Outreach. A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to SOS Outreach, which is an organization that provides 5,500 kids with an adventure based youth development curriculum.
