While strictly speaking more in the realm of the performing arts than the visual arts, if you are enjoying the holiday weekend in Nashville, whether as visitor or as staycation devotee and are tearing your hair over how to entertain the wee ones, let me recommend the Tall Tale Circus.
Tall Tale Circus is not one of our elected officials proposing some absurd piece of legislation to benefit one of his rich campaign contributors; no this is a piece of theater designed, as they used to say, for children of all ages. It features well known characters from American lore and legend: Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyon, Calamity Jane, John Henry and more– live and in person in this musical. You may even see a big blue ox.
This weekend, performance times are Saturday, August 31 at 10:30 and 11:30 AM at the Children's Theater – in the Main Library downtown. The downtown parking garage is adjacent to the library off of Seventh if the joggers, party goers and assorted other folk haven’t filled it first. Mommy vans may even luck out and find a metered parking space on the streets. Since it lasts less than an hour you won’t be out too much in quarters, and with the money left over, go buy a Contributor from a street vendor.
