Talking story with Hawaii musician Kimié

Big Island girl, Kimié Miner, will be releasing her much anticipated album 'To the Sea' on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. She released a single, "Shame on You" during the holidays and it hit the top of the charts in the state of Hawaii. This project that Kimié has been working on was partially funded by her Kickstarter campaign, which ended sucessfully in the beginning of Novemeber 2012.

Kimié has been working hard in the studio on the album and playing shows to prepare for her upcoming tour, which will kick off in April. Kimié, took some time from all of these things to talk story and answer some questions for Examiner.com:

Did the success of Shame on You influence the finalization of the album? If so, how?

The latest single, "Shame on You" was the first solo project I did on my own, without a label. I worked with some very talented musicians like JP Kennedy of The Green, Leslie Ludiazo of Hot Rain, Kaipo Kapua, Wendell Ching, Kapena Delima and Ruff1. It's been a long time coming and the positive feedback on this single encouraged me to release more of my new music. But Kickstarter was definitely the main influence in the finalization of this album because without all of my Kickstarter supporters I wouldn't have been able to finish this album.

What direction do you see this album taking you artistically and professionally?

I love being rooted in Hawaiian, island and reggae music but there are so many other genres that I am equally passionate about like hiphop, pop, jazz and even country. I love Bruno Mars' latest album, Unorthodox Jukebox, because of all the different genres he so effortlessly puts together. I would love to take this same approach artistically on my next album. This EP has just a few hints of what is to come in the future.

What is your favorite journey?

I love traveling around the world but packing a cooler with fresh poke, katsu, musubi and my favorite drinks. Loading our surf boards and spending the whole day with friends and family at the beach in Hawaii is my absolute favorite journey!

What are the top 5 songs on your iTunes 'Most Played' playlist?

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 5th. Keep up with Kimié and all that's happening with her album and upcoming tour dates on her Twitter, tumblr or Facebook.
