Talkin' bout me raggae and java...mon

Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S. Band (Peace, Love, Unity Syndicate) has issued a new four song EP titled “Positive Vibrations”.  Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S. Band certainly deliver with this new four song sampler (their third CD from Little Fish Records).  Starting off with a Bob Marley hit “Mellow Mood”, they follow with a studio version of a dance favorite from their live performances, “Jump in the Line”.  Third on the list is “Wicked”, a pure reggae piece that will have you swaying to the beat.  Last on the disc is “Apartment Living” an original Carlos Jones composition that captures the heart and soul of the reggae lifestyle and heartbeat.

Reggae music originated in Jamaica but was heavily influenced by American soul music and rock and roll.  American Reggae has of course Jamaican Reggae as its base.  Mixed in are some blues, a dash of folk, a sampling of calypso all driven with a heavy rock and roll back beat.

The music first landed in America as part of the soundtrack from the movie “The Harder They Come” and introduced teenagers to this infectious danceable mix of musical styles.  Bob Marley then exploded on the music scene which inspired scores of homegrown reggae groups across the land to explore this melting pot of music.

One of the first of these was Dave Smeltz, who’s Cleveland based group I-Tal was formed in 1978 and was one of the very first U.S. based reggae groups.  It was with I-Tal that Carlos Jones began his reggae career playing percussion.  He then joined with First Light doing dual roles of guitar and vocals.  After a 14 year stint as their front man he started the P.L.U.S. Band.

The new "Positive Vibrations" CD will be officially released on Amazon and ITunes on November 9, 2011 and is available from www.littlefishrecords.com.  You can also purchase the disc at any Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S Band live show.
