Tomorrow is Talk Like a Pirate Day and the whole world is a buzz (it is an international holiday). I am sure that Pirates of the Caribbean movies are being watched around the country tonight. Photo is of book, Pirates by John Matthews.
Talk Like a Pirate day started in Oregon, by John Baur and Mark Summers, and it is literally celebrated around the globe. There are costume contests, and plays in Istanbul, a charity beach party in the Caribbean, and Pirates for Parkinson’s is an organization that was born from this holiday to help raise money for a good cause, according to PR Log a free press website. And in Utah, the Hogle Zoo celebrates Pirate Day by giving $2 off admission for anyone dressed like a pirate tomorrow.
What kind of things can you say on Talk Like a Pirate Day?
Ahoy! - a greeting, a form of hello
Aye! – a form of agreement in which you typically close one eye as you say it
Blimey!
Landlubber – word used to describe non- pirates
Thar she blows! – is typically used for a whale sighting, but could be a phrase to use when drunk
