As everyone knows, New Orleans is a gumbo pot of contradictions. For example, how can a festival dedicated to alcohol also be beneficial to one's health? Well, inn New Orleans that's entirely possible!
Tales of the Cocktail - the world’s primary cocktail festival - is held annually in the Crescent City. Now in its 12th year, Tales of the Cocktail brings the international spirits community together for five days to discuss everything that's happening, and on the horizon, in the world of bar-tending.
Brought to you by NOCCPS, or The New Orleans Culinary and Cultural Preservation Society, this is a non-profit organization committed to preserving the unique cocktail culture in New Orleans and around the world. Each year the NOCCPS produces a number events including Tales of the Cocktail, Tales of the Cocktail on Tour, and Tales of the Toddy, with proceeds being invested back into the international spirits community through scholarships, training programs, and financial aid.
Events include a colorful schedule of dinners, competitions, tasting rooms, new product launches, of course, and seminars. And one of the seminars included in the 2014 festival is one focused on the emotional and physical health of those in the industry.
After all, the spirits industry can be pretty stressful, as it's been abundantly established that stress can lead to health issues. At the "Keeping It Real: Mind, Body Spirit(s)" seminar, participants will examine stress and how it can manifest illness, fatigue, depression, insomnia, weight gain, and hormonal imbalances like PMS and low testosterone. The workshop will provide helpful suggestions on how to manage stress and naturally balance hormones, with the goal of improved health and wellness, increased energy, and greater mindfulness. And with all that good stuff being offered in one place it's certain there's going to be yoga involved!
Scheduled for Thursday, July 17 at the Acadia Suite Rooms in the Royal Sonesta Hotel, the "Keeping In Real: Mind, Body, Spirit(s)" seminar will include a full morning of the following activities:
From 8:30 A.M. to 8:50 A.M - yoga taught by Kirsten Amann, then 8:50 A.M. to 9:05 A.M.- a meditation guided by Dushan Zaric. From 9:05 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. there will be the presentation topic: "How Stress Makes You Sick and What You Can Do About It" taught by Dr. Patricia Beckstead, and then from 9:30 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. the panel discussion topic: "The Emptiness Of The Irritation Person. How To Work A Shift Without Getting Upset" moderated by Patricia Richards, and lead by Dushan Zaric, Keith Waldbauer, and Dr. Patricia Beckstead.
