One of France's most talented film and video editors Rudy Vermorel, talks to Examiner about his inspirations and aspirations.
How and when did you first get into editing films?
Since childhood, I have always been fascinated and impressed by music videos, effects, the display. With evidence since my childhood, I’ve always loved filming and editing videos, It made sense when I worked in the art industry, when I moved to London in 2010, it confirmed to me that I was made to work in this industry.
Who were some of your biggest inspirations in the world of editing?
I loved the editing of many music videos-videos by Joseph Khan, Hype Williams, Colin Tilley were all my inspirations. The way the videos were edited and the creativity, I have always envied.
What kind have training have you done?
After my studies in communications, I wanted to build a school for cinema. Not having the financial means, I had to give up this training. So I learned on my own and thanks to professional training in filming, and editing. I worked in London with amazing editors (Wesley Lipman, Christian Kehoe) on many big projects, which taught me all the basics and creative sides of editing.
What has been your favorite production to work on so far?
My favorite production to work on so far was when I directed and edited my first music video. I was in France and with a talented dancehall dancer friend, we decided to create a dance music video for her. We created a talented little crew of makeup artists, hairdressers, stylists, photographers and filmed in the most beautiful places in the south of France, where I live. When we finished the entire shoot, I started to edit the video and I was the happiest guy in the world at that moment lol. I already had all the images in my head so to have the power to transcribe all this into real life was a beautiful job and the editing was amazing.
What projects do you have coming up?
I will be working with artists including singers. I have a lot of contacts with artists who want to succeed and I’m planning on editing some of their videos and modernizing their creations.
Who would be your ideal co-stars on one of your productions and why?
This has not yet crossed my mind, as I prefer to work with young artists who want to make themselves known in the industry and improve their abilities. However, if I had to choose, I would definitely say Rap/R&B/HipHop stars like (Chris Brown, Beyonce, Jay Z ) because I think they bring so much creativity into their videos. They are always well advanced.
What are your plans for the future?
Work, work and work ! Also, being a part of as many projects as I can and to continue to entertain people with my videos and editing skills.
What is your advice to aspiring editors?
Dare to put your creative ideas into work. Do not be afraid to be ambitious, and of course, believe in your dreams!
