The famous Korean pop star Psy’s Gangnam Style video on YouTube has been viewed more than 1.25 billion times making it the most watched video ever on the service.
The song is so popular, it has led to hundreds of fan videos – Gangnam style. Even the on-line greeting card company Jib-Jab has a Gangnam style card.
A new Gangnam Style video appeared last week, according to a Jan. 30, Geek-cetera report. The video demonstrates the amazing detailed work of the artist, YouTube poster etoilec1.
Geek-cetera’s Matt Humphries wrote, “ It is such a labor-intensive piece of work it deserves the millions of views it will inevitably get (if it manages to stay online long enough).”
The work is a hand drawn flip book for the entire four-minute-long video. That is 15 thousand frames, give or take a hundred or two, and all carefully drawn – some color – some black and white.
Walt Disney would have snapped this animation artist up in a heartbeat!
The video has received almost a half million views in the ten days it has been online. But there is one caveat.
Google has seen fit to strip the video of its sound due to copyright infringement.
The best way to watch the flip book is to play two videos at the same time–the flip book video and Psy’s original music video. Open up another browser window and load the official Gangnam Style video. Start the flip book video and then the official video.
Even if the music is slightly out of sync with the flip book, you can appreciate the work put into the fine piece of animated pop art.
