On the weekends, one of the best ‘fishing holes’ gets better than ever. Goodwill Industries International of Columbia has a half price savings area filled with racks of clothing. Monday through Wednesday; the items on these racks are half price. They are reduced to one dollar each on Thursdays and Fridays. On Saturday and Sunday, the price drops to fifty cents per piece. On Sunday afternoon, the Talbot’s blazer pictured was found at Goodwill on St. Andrews Road in Columbia.

Also found on Sunday were a pretty fuchsia blazer by Haberdashery and a rich violet one by Laura Scott. Both are somewhat lighter weight, with rayon/linen blend outer shells and silky acetate linings. Out of season now, they will be perfect for fall and winter career and corporate wear. The red blazer is almost sure to go to a Christmas party in December. Each cost only fifty cents.

When treasure hunting for bargains, look carefully at linings, seams, buttons and cuffs. Be sure to try clothing on before purchasing it. Clothing does not always run true to size, and something that doesn't fit will not be worn. Check especially for sleeve length and shoulder width in blazers and jackets. Look for signs of staining, fading, pilling, stretching or fraying. If the item passes your scrutiny, you have surely made a fashion find!

Goodwill’s sale racks are generally crammed with tanks, tops, knits, tees, beaded tops, sweaters, suits, skirts, dresses, jeans, trousers, capris, and much more. There are almost always a few pieces of negligee and formals. It’s a great way to spend an hour or two, and hidden treasures are sure to show up. If you need a decent Longitude or Speedo swimsuit for the pool, you’re sure to find it.

There are many selections in plus sizes, including tops, tees, a few brand new blouses, jeans and skirts. Sizes range up to 32, with many pieces in 3X and 4X.

There are many Goodwill thrift stores in Columbia. Just enter your zip code to in the box where it says, Find Your Local Goodwill.

Help yourself to amazing thrifty fashion finds and help people with job training and placement by rounding your purchase price to the next highest dollar at checkout. Your twenty five or fifty cent donation can make a big difference by helping to put someone back to work.
