Taking the Sturgis rally to the world

"There are two kinds of riders in the world - those who have been to Sturgis and those who want to go," said John Detrick, CEO of Motoring USA. "We're taking the Sturgis experience to the world."

To that end, Motoring USA announced Thursday that it is teaming up with two well-known Sturgis venues, the Legendary Buffalo Chip and the Loud American Roadhouse, to launch the 2011 Sturgis Road Show. The show's first stop will be at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center, in the Hershey/Harrisburg area, from April 15-17, 2011.

"Not everyone can make the pilgrimage to South Dakota," said Rod Woodruff, owner of the Chip. "But now they can experience what makes Sturgis the best motorcycle event in the world this April in the Hershey Harrisburg region."

The show will include concerts a la the Chip, and food a la the Roadhouse. Also featured will be galleries of work by world-renowned motorcycle artists and photographers, vintage motorcycles and memorabilia presented by the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum, Custom Chrome International Bike Show, beauty & fashion events, educational and entertainment seminars, and motorcycle product displays and installations.

Further stops on the tour have not yet been announced, although the promoters say the tour will be extended to key national and international markets in 2012.

To me, the best part of Sturgis is the riding in the Black Hills. I am not a fan of crowds so Sturgis any time other than August is for me.

I'm with you, Patty. The switchback rides are therapeutic to me. However, in my world, watching clubs profiling with each other is interesting, when you know what's going on and what to look for.

We watched some of that here in Texas recently - got a little touchy there for about an hour. Snoopy pointed out to me where to dive if anything started happening. However, it was all OK.
