Taking herbs can lower high blood pressure

There are a number of chemically prescribed medications for high blood pressure symptoms.  However, these prescription drugs, often, come with unwanted side effects.

High blood pressure, also referred to as hypertension, may manifest in one or two ways referred to as primary or secondary hypertension.  Those with primary hypertension can, often, make changes to their daily routine by eating nutritious meals, engaging in activities that help to reduce stress, and exercising daily to see positive results of lowered blood pressure.  Those with secondary hypertension generally develop high blood pressure as a result of a primary illness or condition.

There are several herbs than can successfully lower hypertension.  According to Juliana Robertson of eHow health, some herbs aid in helping the kidneys to release salt and fluids which may be helpful to individuals with secondary hypertension due to an underlying illness such as kidney disease.  Various other types of herbs are believed to lower high blood pressure by strengthening the walls of the arteries.  The following are a list of herbs that lower high blood pressure:

  • Aloe Vera is a natural remedy that may not only lower hypertension, but also be helpful in controlling blood sugar because of the glycoproteins and polysaccharides present in Aloe Vera.
  • Cayenne pepper, another natural remedy, cleanses the blood of cholesterol and also supports blood circulation which is useful in lowering high blood pressure.
  • Garlic, when taken in raw form, can also be very helpful in lowering high blood pressure.
  • Ginger is believed by many to relax blood vessels and, like cayenne pepper, also assist in blood circulation.
  • Turmeric, Hawthorn berry, and Red clover can also be very effective in lowering high blood pressure by supporting blood circulation and relaxing the blood vessels.
  • Maitake mushroom extract is believed to lower blood cholesterol levels as well as reduce high blood pressure.

In addition to the above-mentioned herbs, there are also various herbal blends available that are specifically formulated for the purpose of lowering high blood pressure.  However, to avoid a negative interaction between chemically prescribed medications and natural herbal products, it is important to seek a doctor's opinion before taking herbs to treat hypertension.  This is vitally important because some herbs should not to be taken if an individual is also taking certain prescribed high blood pressure medications.
